Foggy Beach Day

Sunday was HOT here in Menlo Park (90+ degrees) so we packed up and headed to the beach... along with every other person from the Bay Area! We thought we had a great plan- Heff wanted to get some archery range practice in before his first hunt in a few weeks so he decided he would drive his girls over the hill to meet friends for brunch while he went back up to skyline to the archery range (humm... who doesn't trust my driving? :) This all sounded great... until we hit the 92 TRAFFIC. Even with our backroads 84 cut-through the 3 miles of Highway 92 took us 45 minutes to get through. Ouch. It was a foggy day at the beach but kind of nice to cool off!

FOGGY view of the beach at brunch

Literally as soon as we sat down I fed Maisie and she left that unmistakable newborn baby mark (aka blowout) on my white shorts. This was a 20+ wipe cleanup and thank goodness for the sale bin at the gift shop with cute replacements!

Maisie says "Hey Sis... did you see that one? Pretty impressive huh?"

"Wait, stop talking about Maisie... it's all about ME!"

After brunch and some playdough action (Francie brought it- adults enjoyed it) we got ready to walk down to the beach...

Even though it was hot and sunny 20 miles away at home, Half Moon Bay is usually socked in fog like this. It was a nice break from the heat but not good for frizzy hair! Literally 200 yards away on the highway it was perfectly clear and sunny but the coastline was all fog.

Ready to get her toes in the ocean

Miss Everything-in-it's-place had to run her crocs back up to our bag first

Anne & Bjorn-ridin-Benji

Benji's dogs met us there to play... Francie was in heaven and didn't have a clue we were all laughing at the way she says their names, especially when she shouts it across the beach. Fluffy was "Come here SHU-SSSHY!"

Closest we got to "cheeeese" for the camera

Another one just her size... "Frank" (think Father of The Bride "Frank") aka "Sonk"

Sonk kissing Sanse

Anne hod-rattin' on the beach

Sergey met us at the beach and took Francie in to play in the shallow waves

Snuggling with Maisie- on her first trip to play on the beach!

Not so sure about all this sand and fog and the loud waves but pretty happy she didn't end up all wet like big sis (I think Maisie might be more princess, less tomboy if a newborn's personality says anything about them)

Aviation Museum

Thursday morning we met Amy, Asher, Lena and Rose at the Hiller Aviation Museum for a playdate and lunch. We got to watch airplanes take off outside and even saw a "Hew-wo-copter" fly right in front of us and the pilot waved at the kids :)

Packing up her "purse" for the day

Checking out the runway with Asher

The whole production passing out snacks to the toddlers

Lena and Rose watch the Hew-wo-copter flying low (we think this guy was learning how to fly- it was slightly scary)

Lunch at the Sky Kitchen Cafe and Rose shared a lollipop for dessert (I see a trend here;)

Thanks Rose :)

and my cute little Maisie Moo in cherries!
(Baby Ann thinks this is a "Jannie smile" we still don't know who she looks like?)

but she sure is a happy baby!

First Swim Lesson

As you can see, Francie didn't like her first swim lesson at all ;) Michelle did a GREAT job getting her right in the pool and jumping, kicking, dunking, big-arming-it in no time. Francie was scared of the water for a few months but after watching Emmy swim with big girls "Cheyyie and Wu-wu" when she was babysitting sh ehas been all over it. We had some time to kill before our 11:30am lesson with Michelle at the Skidmore's pool on Wednesday so we stopped by the Burgess pool to let her run around in the baby pool with the giant mushroom fountain. It was a water-wednesday :)

Michelle is good :)

Don't you swim with a giant bow in your hair too?

Sunbathing sisters (Francie's looking at me like "Mom, why did you buy a 2 month old a big girl bathing suit like mine? She can't even swim... save it for my cute cover-ups please."

Jannie came by at the end of the lesson and Francie got to show off her new swimming skills. Ann Skidmore was so nice to let us use her pretty pool! We all walked downtown for lunch at the new Amici's Pizza after swimming and Heff met us there to hear all about it :)

Francie and Rose

Francie got to hang out with her friend Rose this week a couple times and they are hilarious together. They both picked out the same shirt (weird huh ;) to wear on their lunch date and Rose brought beads and lollipops to fight over... and these two do fight like teenagers! They've both got a little spunk ;)

Courtney, Mary, Francie, Lena and Rose at lunch (with Maisie making herself known in the stroller- hanging on tight to her paparazzi shield!)

When we got to lunch Francie and Maisie were both asleep (no double stroller I like yet) so I threw Maisie in the sling and Francie in Maisie's carseat/stroller to take a little nap. Waking up the Little Doo before she is ready is no recommended :)

Maisie entertained Courtney while her sister was asleep

and Courtney brought pink rock candy for the girls! I was to busy picking sticky rocks off of me to get a cute picture of Francie with hers... she insisted on sitting on my lap to eat it and on biting it down to the stick!

Father's Day Pizza Dinner

Heff and I were lucky to have both of our dads in the same place to celebrate Father's Day! We just kept the party rolling and Jannie and Grampa kept the pizza oven fired up and turning out pizzas and steaks. My brothers came over (we missed you ABA) Heff, Mark, and Kat were all here to celebrate with their Dad (we missed Craig) and Maureen and Patrick had to head out to fly home to Utah to move tomorrow to New Jersey for a year for Doug's surgery fellowship so the girls are staying with Oma and got to get some chicken playing-swinging-pizza making cousin fun in. We had a nice night with our families... Happy Father's Day John and Tom!

Cousins in summer Saltwaters

and cousins all around! (we missed you Izza-bizza!)

Mathcing outfits make it easy to tell who's who! Doug & Maureen's (number three of the Heffernan five) kids in green/blue: Ellie (6), Kate (4) and Patrick (9 months); Sarah & Mark's (number two of the group) baby Clara Marie (3 months) in white and Brian's (oldest Heffernan) girls Francie (21 months) and Maisie (2 months) in pink! Andrea & Craig (tied for 4 of the Heffernan clan) have Isabel (23 months) who was just getting back from a trip to Hungary and hopefully Donald & Kat (tied for 4 too- Craig's twin) will add to the mix soon! Anyone follow that???

More pizzas!!

Toppings always look so pretty and Jannie adds a few new ones everytime... might need another table soon

My dad brought US flowers and BBQ'ed on Father's Day! What a dad :)

Shower for Katherine

Sunday my mom and I hosted a wedding shower for Kat. Her big day is less than a month away so we had lots to celebrate! We had a fun group of girls... Kat's bay area friends and family to toast her last few weeks of being the "bride-to-be!"

Em arriving for the party

the girls start making pizzas

Francie thinks she'll just help herself to some mozzerella before we throw it in the pizza oven

Happy Shower Bride-to-be!!! Let the festivities begin!

Playdates

We had a great weekend with Aunt Kat in town for her shower! Friday we met some friends at Shoop Park in Los Altos but the creek had dried up so Francie wasn't very impressed :) We had lunch at Rosewood with Maisie's friends Friday afternoon and then made dinner at home with Dad. Saturday we camped out by the pool and got some sun while Francie went to the Hiller Aviation Museum Airshow with Jannie and Grampa. We had a fun BBQ at the Chane's house Saturday night and the kids all showed off their favorite tricks to Miss Heffernan (Aunt Kat:). Sunday we threw Kat a wedding shower at Jannie's house then had everybody over for a pizza party Father's Day dinner.
